Hello! I am João Paixão, a Lisbon-based Multimedia Technician and recent Cinema & TV graduate from ETIC, in Lisbon.
My background in video editing started during my high school years at EPI. Before that, I was mostly into programming, but I quickly realized video editing gave me that exact same feeling, taking scattered pieces and building a cohesive system out of them. This led me to produce Entr'aço, my first video essay as part of my PAP. In the end, with my Multimedia degree on hand, moving into university felt like the natural next step to sharpen my technical skills and deepen my storytelling.
When not editing for classes, I find myself producing videos for my main hobby, The Luso Urbanist, a Substack/YouTube publication on the subject of Urbanism and Public Transportation in Portugal. I have also recently challenged myself to get back into coding, which is how this website came to be. Yes, this was built and coded by me from scratch.
Post PAP I had an internship at Beltrão Coelho, in their marketing department. I have also produced videos for various clients as a freelancer, as well as having been the Community Manager for SquigCraft where I managed updates, releases, and all sorts of communication with the wider community.

Entr'aço
The Northern Railway Line is, undisputedly, the backbone of the national railway. However, because it was built over a century ago, it now carries major speed and capacity limitations.
In this short video essay, created for my PAP, I analyze the proposed solutions to this issue, the main points of contention, and the reasons why I support this restructuring.

"What is a neighborhood if not the sum of its parts? To what extent are we willing to sacrifice our identity for the greed of others?"
I organized, shot, and developed the Making Of for this academic fiction short film. Adapting to the dynamic rhythm and fast transitions required during editing was a challenge outside my comfort zone, but it proved to be an enriching experience that expanded my versatility in post-production.
Onira
A fiction short film inspired by the complexity of sleep paralysis and its various cycles.
In this curricular project, I took on the role of producer: handling all documentation, budget management, team coordination, and the strict planning of shooting schedules. It was an intense exercise in leadership and behind-the-scenes organization.
Tudo mas nada
An experimental film directed by Rafaela Borges Sousa that addresses concepts like "Future Memories" and the inertia of those who want to change their lives but do nothing about it.
In this two-person project, I was responsible for camera operation and post-production. Experimental cinema demands close attention to detail so that the abstract message is not lost, making it a highly rewarding technical and creative challenge.

"On a moonlit night, Ester and Bruna spend hours by the edge of a lake, accompanied only by the surrounding forest and a dog. The film delves into Bruna's thoughts, revealing memories of their relationship and her concerns about the future."
